CERTIFIED WILDLIFE HABITATS

Help local wildlife by creating a garden oasis with native plants!

You can create a certified habitat for wildlife no matter where you live or work–from large properties to apartment balconies.

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) will certify your backyard habitat area if it provides food, water, cover, places to raise young, and is maintained using sustainable practices.

When you certify your yard or garden as habitat through NWF, you acknowledge your contribution to conservation. In addition, you can opt to purchase a special sign with the NWF and KWF logos to proudly show you’re committed to smart landscaping that benefits fish and wildlife in our great state!

When you post a sign around a habitat area indicating that it is intentional, you likely preempt comments and/or complaints about that habitat area looking “unkempt.” You also educate passersby and help KWF achieve its habitat conservation goals. One benefit of certifying with NWF is the well-designed sign.

The application fee is $20 and the cost for an official sign is $30. The money directly supports NWF’s wildlife programs, with a portion going to KWF.
